CHEN TE WANG, born in Yung Lo (Tihwa street) in 1906. His father was a merchant so he was very rich when he was young. His father had hoped to cultivate him into a doctor, but he showed his strong interest in painting since he was a child. Finally, fate still guided him into painting world.

CHEN TE WANG was persuaded by his aunt living in mainland China to enter Japanese high school in mainland China when his aunt came back Taiwan to get a wife for her son's. His uncle (aunt's husband) found he was crazy about painting when he was in Tientsin, so he encouraged CHEN to learn painting in Tokyo.

While CHEN TE WANG lived in Japan, he gave up entering arts school absolutely since he would like to learn painting freely from those private schools. He came back Taiwan in 1941 when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor to end the twelve-year learning in Japan. From the above, we can know that he showed his unique independent character since he was young.

His life was filled with painting, exhibiting, and teaching after he came back Taiwan. He spent all his time in painting till die after retiring. As soon as he picked up his drawing pen, he fell into the colorful, spiritual and thoughtful world, which he was oblivious of self-existence. He treated his works very strictly that his sincere attitude toward arts could be a good model.
